Aeroplane or helicopter.
Premium EASA theoretical knowledge training for PPL(A), LAPL(A), PPL(H) and LAPL(H) — built for private pilots who want professional standards from day one.
Private flying deserves serious training.
The PPL is the classic foundation for private aviation and a natural starting point for pilots who may later add further qualifications. The LAPL offers a more limited European licence route. For both aeroplanes and helicopters, the corresponding PPL syllabus is also used for LAPL theoretical knowledge training under Part-FCL.
At Cranfield, private-pilot theory is taught with the same philosophy that shapes our professional programmes: structured digital learning, clear progress control, direct instructor support and preparation for the official theoretical knowledge examination.
Choose the way you want to fly.
Freedom on wings.
For pilots whose journey starts in the aeroplane cockpit — from modern touring aircraft such as the Cirrus SR20 to the wider world of general aviation.
Experience the third dimension.
For pilots drawn to rotary-wing flight — from training helicopters such as the Robinson R44 to turbine helicopter operations represented by aircraft such as the Bell 206.
One theory foundation. Different privileges.
The right licence depends on how and where you intend to fly. For maximum long-term flexibility, the PPL is generally the stronger route; the LAPL can be attractive when its more limited privileges match your plans.
The flexible foundation
- ICAO-compliant private pilot licence route
- Broader basis for future ratings and qualifications
- Category-specific PPL(A) or PPL(H) privileges
- Recommended when long-term flexibility matters
The European light-aircraft route
- European Part-FCL licence with defined limitations
- LAPL(A) and LAPL(H) privileges differ by aircraft category
- The corresponding PPL syllabus is used for theory
- A practical route can later be built toward PPL requirements
Nine subjects. One complete foundation.
EASA PPL theoretical knowledge covers five common subjects and four aircraft-category-specific subjects. The LAPL(A) and LAPL(H) use the corresponding PPL syllabus.
Built around your life. Structured around your licence.

Complete the required course elements and consolidate key subjects with our training team.
Exam ready
After successful course completion and school assessment, proceed to the competent authority examination.
Clear training. Correct pathway.
Theoretical knowledge training and practical flight training may be completed with different approved or declared training organisations where the applicable Part-FCL requirements are met. Practical experience requirements and licence privileges differ between PPL(A), LAPL(A), PPL(H) and LAPL(H).
Final eligibility, examination arrangements, credits and licence issue remain subject to the applicable Part-FCL rules and the competent authority. Our team can help you understand which theoretical route fits your intended licence.
